Introduction

The Andhra Pradesh Integrated Common Entrance Test (APICET) is a state-level entrance examination conducted on behalf of the A.P. State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE) for admission into the first year of Master of Computer Applications (MCA) and Master of Business Administration (MBA) courses. These programs are offered by various university constituent and affiliated colleges in Andhra Pradesh. Syllabus

The APICET MCA syllabus is divided into three main sections:

1. Analytical Ability (75 Questions)

  • Data Sufficiency (20 Questions): A question is given followed by data in the form of two statements. Candidates need to determine if the data provided in the statements is sufficient to answer the question.
  • Problem Solving (55 Questions):
    • Sequences and Series: Analogies of numbers and alphabet, completion of blank spaces following a pattern (a:b::c:d relationship), finding the odd one out, missing number in a sequence or series.
    • Data Analysis: Analysis of data given in Tables, Graphs, Bar diagrams, Pie Charts, Venn Diagrams, or Passages, and answering questions pertaining to the data.
    • Coding & Decoding Problems: Coding and decoding words or groups of letters based on given patterns.
    • Date, Time & Arrangement Problems: Calendar problems, clock problems, blood relationships, arrivals, departures and schedules, seating arrangements, symbol and notation interpretation.

2. Mathematical Ability (55 Questions)

  • Arithmetical Ability (35 Questions): Laws of indices, Ratio and proportion, Surds, Numbers and divisibility, L.C.M. and G.C.D., Rational numbers, Ordering, Percentages, Profit and loss, Partnership, Pipes and cisterns, Time, distance and work problems, Areas and volumes, Mensuration, Modular arithmetic.
  • Algebraical and Geometrical Ability (10 Questions): Statements, Truth tables, implication converse and inverse, Tautologies-Sets, Relations and functions, Applications (Equation of a line in different forms), Trigonometry (Trigonometric ratios, Trigonometric identities, sample problems on heights and distances), Polynomials, Remainder theorem and consequences, Linear equations and expressions, Progressions, Binomial Theorem, Matrices, Notion of a limit and derivative, Plane geometry (lines, Triangles, Quadrilaterals, Circles), Coordinate geometry (distance between points).
  • Statistical Ability (10 Questions): Frequency distributions, Mean, Median, Mode, Standard Deviation, Correlation, simple problems on Probability.

3. Communication Ability (70 Questions)

  • Vocabulary (15 Questions): Identification of vocabulary used in day-to-day communication (Synonyms, Antonyms, etc.).
  • Business and Computer Terminology (20 Questions): Identification of basic terminology and concepts in computer and business contexts (letters, reports, memoranda, agenda, minutes, etc.).
  • Functional Grammar (15 Questions): Understanding the functional use of grammar in day-to-day communication as well as in business contexts.
  • Reading Comprehension (20 Questions - from 4 passages): Understanding written text and drawing inferences.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Nationality: The candidates should be Indian Nationals and satisfy local/non-local status requirements as per the Andhra Pradesh Government orders.
  • Educational Qualification:
    • Candidates should have studied and passed a 3 or 4-year undergraduate course in any faculty of a recognized university or its equivalent degree examination in the 10 + 2 + 3/4 pattern as recognized by UGC.
    • For MCA: Degree of 3/4 years duration with "Mathematics" as one of the subjects at Intermediate (10+2) or Degree level.
    • Note: Candidates who passed all the subjects of the three years of any Degree course in one sitting are NOT eligible for admission into MBA or MCA Course.
  • Minimum Marks:
    • Aggregate marks of 50% in the qualifying examination (for General category candidates).
    • Aggregate marks of 45% in the qualifying examination (in case of reserved categories – SC, ST and BC).
  • Distance Mode Programs: The qualifying Degree obtained by Distance Mode Program should have recognition by the Joint Committee of UGC, AICTE, and DEC/DEB.
  • Appearing Candidates: Candidates who are appearing for the final year degree examination are also eligible to appear for APICET, provided they satisfy the eligibility criteria and their results are announced before the counselling process.
  • Age Limit: There is no age limit for the APICET exam.

Exam Pattern

  • Mode of Examination: Computer-Based Test (CBT) - Online.
  • Duration: 150 minutes (2 hours 30 minutes).
  • Type of Questions: Objective Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), each with four options.
  • Total Number of Questions: 200.
  • Total Marks: 200.
  • Marking Scheme:
    • 1 mark will be awarded for every correct answer.
    • There is NO negative marking for wrong answers.
  • Medium of Question Paper: Sections A (Analytical Ability) & B (Mathematical Ability) will be in English and Telugu. Section C (Communication Ability) will be in English only.
  • Sectional Time Limit: There is no sectional time limit; candidates can manage their time across all three sections.

Application Procedure

The APICET application process is online. Key steps include:

  1. Visit the official APICET website (cets.apsche.ap.gov.in/ICET).
  2. Click on "Fee Payment" to pay the application fee online (approx. Rs. 650 for OC, Rs. 600 for BC, Rs. 550 for SC/ST).
  3. After successful payment, proceed to "Fill Application Form".
  4. Enter payment details (Payment Reference ID) and other required information.
  5. Fill in personal, academic, qualifying exam, and contact details.
  6. Upload scanned photograph and signature as per specified format and size.
  7. Review and submit the application form. Take a printout of the confirmation page.
  8. Late fee options are available for those who miss the initial deadline.

Preparation of Merit List and Rank Assignment

Candidates who secure 25% marks in APICET (50 out of 200) will be assigned a rank in the order of merit. For SC/ST categories, qualifying marks are not prescribed, and they will be assigned ranks based on marks obtained. In case of a tie, detailed tie-breaking rules are followed as per official norms.

Counselling and Admission

Admission to MCA programs is based on the APICET rank. The counselling process is conducted online by APSCHE and involves:

  1. Online registration and payment of processing fee.
  2. Online verification of uploaded certificates.
  3. Exercising web options (choosing colleges and courses).
  4. Seat allotment results.
  5. Self-reporting and reporting to the allotted colleges for final admission.
